The Queen of Herbs: Cardamom

Cardamom is the dried seed pod of an herb-like plant in the ginger family and is native to India, Bhutan and Nepal. Today, cardamom is grown commercially in areas like Southeast Asia, Guatemala, New Guinea, and Vietnam! “True cardamom” is a pale green pod, but there are other varieties as well; regardless of the variety, once the pod is cracked open, it’s the tiny black seeds contained inside that are bursting with volatile oils and flavor!

Cardamom has an exotic intense aroma and flavor, it is very unique, strong, spicy-sweet, and has notes of lemon, mint, and a touch of pepper.

If you have tried Indian Masala tea (or chai tea), then you have most likely tasted cardamom already! It is commonly found in chai blends, and in Middle Eastern and Indian foods alike. Evidence shows that cardamom is one of the healthiest herbs on the planet. It is all around health giving, and naturally anti-inflammatory. We happily carry many blends that feature cardamom since it is delicious and health boosting!
