Tea polyphenols are bioactive plant compounds that include catechins- these are compounds that have shown prevent cancer and these same polyphenols benefit your skin by reversing U.V damage and reducing inflammation. Here is a little look into teas that will get your skin glowing and encourage healthier skin!

Green Tea

The polyphenols EGCG that is naturally abundant in green tea prevents cancer and research is showing that regularly consuming green tea may even prevent skin cancer, protect against sunburn, and decrease the inflammation of the skin associated with aging.

Yerba Maté

Yerba Maté is our favorite South American herbal tea! It packs a powerful punch of caffeine similar to a cup of coffee; yet boasts the health benefits of true tea. It is a satisfying tea drink, as it delivers a cup that is earthy, rich, and flavorful. Yerba Maté is loaded with antioxidants that prevent free radical damage in your skin.

White Tea

White tea is the least processed true tea; it has unique properties, the highest levels of catechins and high levels of antioxidants. It has natural antibacterial properties that can help heal many types of skin problems. Our skin contains an enzyme that increases as we age; matrix metalloproteinases (MMP). White tea reduces levels of MMP, and this prevents our collagen and elastin from decreasing; both of which are necessary for healthy skin.

Tea for Acne

Though you may not get the dramatic results that over the counter medicines and chemical treatments can produce, there are teas that will help your skin battle acne! Rooibos is caffeine-free, and while rooibos does’nt contain the antioxidant EGCG found in true teas, it contain high levels of nothofagin and aspalathin as well as superoxide dismutase! Rooibos works as an acne treatment as it is full of antioxidant, antibacterial and immune-modulating properties. Whether or not you choose to use topical treatments, incorporating rooibos and other true teas into your daily routine will help you achieve the clearer, healthier skin you desire!

Herbal tea and fruity teas keep you hydrated effortlessly! Dehydration is one way that your skin can age prematurely and be damaged. Tea helps you to easily stay hydrated that you may prevent dry skin, premature wrinkles. Stay hydrated for naturally glowing, beautiful, dewy, healthy skin!
