About Earl Grey tea

We carry the classic on a black tea base, such as Earl Grey Premium and Earl Grey Classic, and many twists on it: Cream Earl Grey Moonlight adds vanilla, French Earl Grey adds flowers, Russian Earl Grey adds citrus peel and Lavender Earl Grey adds lavender.

Prefer something lighter or without much caffeine? Try Green Earl Grey Cream, Rooibos Earl Grey or Decaf Cream Earl Grey. For more flavored black teas, browse black tea blends.

Earl Grey FAQ

What gives Earl Grey its flavor?

Bergamot, a citrus fruit grown mainly in southern Italy. Its oil gives Earl Grey its bright, floral, citrusy aroma.

How do I brew Earl Grey?

Use 1 teaspoon per 8 oz cup and water just off the boil, around 200 to 212°F. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes; longer steeps can make the tea taste bitter and mute the bergamot.

What is the difference between Earl Grey and Cream Earl Grey?

Cream Earl Grey adds vanilla to the bergamot, which gives a softer, rounder, almost dessert-like flavor. It is also the base for a popular London Fog latte.

How do I make a London Fog?

Brew Earl Grey or Cream Earl Grey double strength, add a little vanilla syrup or honey, and top with steamed, frothed milk.

How do you drink Earl Grey tea?

Drink it plain, with lemon, or with milk and a little sugar. Steep with water at 95–100°C (203–212°F) for 3–5 minutes.

Does Earl Grey have caffeine?

Yes. Earl Grey is a black tea, so a cup typically has about 40–70 mg of caffeine. Decaf and rooibos Earl Grey versions are caffeine-free or nearly so.
