I decided to test a bunch of tea from TeaLyra so I ordered a set and brewed them all the same. For our test, 1 full teaspoon of tea was used and all were steeped for 3 minutes in a 50mL teacup. To test how well the smell and taste held up, I also included a second brew during our test.
This genmaicha is weaker than my hamster. Both the rice and green tea are weak in scent and flavour. The rice is so weak that the green tea flavour actually managed to overpower the roasted rice. Never have I tasted genmaicha with a stronger green tea flavour than rice. I have had store-bought tea that brewed stronger. I also used to work in a Japanese ramen store and even our "low-grade" genmaicha was better than this. If you are a fan of strong teas especially if you have had very good genmaicha, then, skip this. I agree with a previous reviewer, I would not pay this price for such a weak tea.
I rated this tea 3/10

It's a splendid tea, no regrets buying 200 grams of this stuff.

simply exquisite and relatively cheap.

I drink Genmaicha every afternoon. It has enough caffeine to keep me going but not so much that I can't sleep at night. The toasted rice lend it a pleasant roasty flavor & smell. I've tried many brands and this is one of the best that I've found!

Delicious new morning ritual is making my Genmaicha tea, reminiscent of the puffed toasted rice cereal I used to eat as a little boy. Smooth, with a clean, grassy green tea flavor. Tases great with just a touch of stevia or xylitol. It’s so good, I don’t miss morning coffee anymore!
I like the flavor of this Genmaicha tea. I'm concerned, however, that the individual bags do not appear to be compostable. They seem to be made of a strong man-made product (perhaps nylon or similar). Purchasing the tea in loose-leaf solves the problem, but please consider using compostable and environmentally friendly materials for the individual serving tea bags.
Dissapointed. While I really prefer to have organic tea this comes nowhere near the bag of Gen Mai Cha made in Japan that I can buy in most Asian food store which has that nutty taste that I remember from Japan. I suppose if you have tasted that nutty taste you wont miss it but it is the only reason I liked this kind of tea.
