Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha – Premium First-Harvest Deep-Steamed Sencha

Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha is a premium-quality, first-harvest sencha from Shizuoka, Japan — the country's largest and most famous tea-growing region. It's one of the finest naturally grown senchas we've ever had the pleasure of offering at Tealyra!

This fragrant deep-steamed sencha is both mellow and rich, with complex flavor. Deep steaming (fukamushi) softens the leaves and brings out a fuller, rounder taste with less astringency than lightly steamed senchas. The brilliant, dark green, needle-like leaves deliver a fragrant aroma and a translucent cup.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: brilliant, dark green needles
  • Aroma: fresh and fragrant
  • Liquor: translucent green
  • Flavor: mellow yet rich and complex
  • Finish: surprisingly full-bodied yet light, with umami sweetness

Why You'll Love It

Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha strikes a beautiful balance between lightness and depth. It's smooth enough for everyday sipping yet complex enough to impress green tea connoisseurs. It's naturally rich in antioxidants and L-theanine for calm, focused energy.

  • From Shizuoka, Japan's premier tea region
  • First-harvest premium sencha
  • Deep-steamed for a rich, mellow cup
  • Umami sweetness on the finish

How to Enjoy

Enjoy it plain in a kyusu or small teapot and re-steep the leaves for additional cups. It pairs perfectly with sushi, grilled fish, rice dishes and light Japanese sweets, and makes a refreshing iced green tea.

Fragrant, rich and beautifully balanced, Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha is a Japanese green tea you'll return to again and again — a lovely everyday luxury and a thoughtful gift for anyone who appreciates fine Japanese tea.

Delicious Sencha.
Initially I was very sceptical (don't know why). However, Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha, proved to be one of the best sencha teas I have tried in the last 5 years.

My favourite sencha of all times. I particularly like it as a cold brew as it imparts less astringency, and comes close to a fine gyokuro. Otherwise 55 degrees celsius works best for first hot brew.

Profound, delicate, reviving. Batches can vary, but consistently washes me away in a verdant 'monsoon' of grassy splendor. When brewed richly, provides a mouthfeel that you can almost chew. When brewed lightly, entrances with subtle whispers. Restores hope, optimism, imagination. Truly a gem in the world of sencha - don't forget to drink it if you get mesmerized by its outstanding emerald hue. Not the most flavorful second steep, but still my all-time favorite green tea.

Like the gyokuro I purchased at the same time I can't get over how fresh, verdant and zingy tealyra's Japanese greens are, they make most I've tried before seem lifeless and stale. All the health claims made for green tea - they taste plausible. This is a particularly lovely rounded and 3 dimensional sencha.
