Tie Guan Yin, Iron Goddess of Mercy

In stock: 23

One of the most famous Chinese oolong teas is Tie Guan Yin (or TGY).  Tea connoisseurs may have heard of this same tea by the names of Ti Kuan Yin, Iron Buddha, or Iron Goddess of Mercy. Regardless of what you call it, its distinctive flavor and light floral fragrance are what make this oolong tea so famous. Our Tie Guan Yin Iron Goddess of Mercy has a light golden-amber infusion with a smooth body and sweet finish. It is beautifully floral and fragrant- truly a tea masterpiece.

Besides the intoxicating flavor of course, Tie Guan Yin is also popular because of its numerous healing properties.  Some of the benefits of this tea include anti-aging, anti-cancer, the treatment and prevention of diabetes, and an aid in weight loss. When you combine a great tasting tea classic, pleasant fragrance and the health benefits, you can see why this tea is so sought after!

This is how to do it:

I've had this tea before and was very impressed. But the latest package I have received is not as good. Very musty smelling, like old wooden boxes. Taste is rather bland as well.
The taste is still bordering on the authentic though and the price isn't outrageous.

Very disappointing, tie guan yin is suppose to be bursting with aromas and floral notes, this one smelled like it was old, it’s lost a lot of its aromas and just smells like old seaweed that’s been on the beaches with dead fish for a while. The taste is also almost none existent. Don’t recommend this tea.

This tea is "OK" -- flavor is good, but there is little to no depth of flavor, meaning it is weak. A normal Tie Guan Yin (good quality in China) can be quick washed in hot water (fill pot, stir, pour out immediately), then steeped once, twice, usually thrice. Usually full flavor doesn't "blossom" until 2nd steep; 3rd steep still has good flavor, but weaker than 2nd.

This tea loses its flavor completely after the first steep (and you can't do the initial "wash" or already too weak).

So, taste "OK" - for what there is of it.

Amazing! This tea has a lovely sweet, pleasant aroma and taste. I love it. A little
goes a long way as the tea leaves are large. It is like a beautiful sunny day!
