Hibiscus brews a ruby red, tart and tangy cup that is naturally caffeine-free and great hot or iced.
Pure Hibiscus is whole hibiscus flowers from Egypt, with a bright, cranberry-like tartness. Hibiscus and Rosehips is a classic fruity pairing, and Luscious Hibiscus Rose adds a floral note.
Hibiscus also gives color and tang to fruit blends like Strawberry Hibiscus Sangria, Sweet Berry Compote, Cherry Goddess and Grandma's Garden.
Hibiscus is tart and tangy, much like cranberry or pomegranate juice, with a deep red color. Many people add a little honey or sugar to round out the tartness.
Use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 8 oz cup and water at about 205°F. Steep 3 to 5 minutes. Hibiscus colors the water fast, and a long steep makes it more sour.
Brew it double strength, using about 2 to 3 teaspoons per 8 oz of hot water, then pour it over a full glass of ice. You can also steep it in cold water in the fridge overnight for a smoother cup.
It can. The deep red color may stain light mugs, plastic pitchers and fabric, so rinse cups soon after use. Glass and glazed porcelain clean up easily.
