Description

Enshi Yulu Gyokuro is a rare Chinese-grown Japanese style steamed green tea from the high mountain gardens of Enshi, Hubei, China home to selenium-rich soil and year-round mist. Grown above 800 meters and crafted using a traditional Tang Dynasty steaming method, this tea preserves a vivid, oceanic freshness with a clean, vegetal depth. Unlike pan-fired greens, Yulu’s steam fixation captures a living, raw vitality that’s unmistakably pure.

This tea also has a long history. EnShi City has produced tea since the Tang Dynasty (618-907). History suggests that this style of tea was first created during Emperor Kang Xi's reign. In 1945, Jade Gyokuro was introduced to Japan and it was so well accepted that it was called “Chinese Gyokuro”.

The glossy leaves are hand-rolled into slender pine-needle shapes, their finish reflecting the care of true craftsmanship. Once steeped, an aromatic grassy fragrance pulls you in. With each sip, expect a velvety smoothness, briny sweetness, hints of fresh greens, and a lingering mineral clarity.

I thoroughly enjoy good Japanese gyokuro but wanted to try this Chinese one. Initially, I was making it too weak, but when I strengthened it a bit, WOW! This is some wonderful tea!
