Gyokuro is one of Japan's most popular teas, it differs from Sencha because Gyokuro is shaded from the sun for approximately two weeks before it is harvested, which creates a deeper color and richer flavor. "Ureshinocha" in Japanese means "tea of joy"!

Specially produced in small quantities in the Saga prefecture on the island of Kyushu, which touches both the Sea of Japan and the Ariake sea. The growing conditions, environment and traditional production methods of the region ensure that our Gyokuro Ureshinocha offers a unique green tea taste of a premium quality. With a very sweet and mellow Gyokuru taste, Gyokuro Ureshinocha brews up to a refreshing, light and mellow umami cup, which is best brewed at a slightly lower water temperature than standard green teas, between 175 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

I love this tea! Since I'm not that fond of Sencha, I tended to drink Chinese Dragon Well almost exclusively, but now I've found this one and will order again. So good!

I compared 3 similarly priced Gyokuro varieties: Gyokuro Ureshinocha, Gyokuro Premier, and Yame Gyokura Grade 1. I found the Gyokuro Premier and Yame Gyokuro Grade 1 to be indistinguishable from each other. Both of these varieties yielded tea with a richer and better flavor than Gyokuro Ureshinocha. In all case, I heated 8 oz of water to 130F and steeped with 1 tsp of tea leaves for 1 minute.

This is great green tea. Flavors are a bit grassy and nutty, with a slight touch of sweetness in the aroma and flavor. I'm also getting a pronounced hemp seed flavor. No sugar or sweetener required. This tea seems to promote relaxation more than cheaper tea, and even performs better than my gunpowder green tea. Give it a try.
