Description

Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha is a premium quality first harvest sencha that comes from Shizuoka, Japan. This is one of the finest organically grown sencha teas that we have ever had the pleasure of offering at Tealyra! Shizuoka Tsuyu Sencha is very fragrant deep-steamed sencha that is both mellow yet rich and complex tasting. The brilliant, dark green, needle like leaves of this incredible specialty deliver a fragrant aroma, translucent cup and a flavor profile that is surprisingly full bodied yet light, and umami sweet on the finish.

I did not love the first brew, brewed 1 1/2 minutes, taste was somewhat astringent. However, 2nd and 3rd were wonderful (brewed 2 minutes each). Slightly sweet with a great mouth feel.

This is my new favorite organic Japanese green tea. I'm usually drawn to gyokuro teas, but the grassy, smooth flavor and beautiful green color of this tea is my white whale: a tea that tastes, smells and looks like my first green tea in Atami, Japan. I get three steepings out of every teaspoon. Very happy.

This tea has overshadowed my prior sencha favorites. Don't let it steep too long but do enjoy the differences in 2nd and 3rd steepings. Grassy, fresh, lively.
