Description

Dong Fang Mei Ren Formosa Oolong is legendary and of highest quality, handpicked “Champagne Formosa”. It is a fairly high oxidized leaf (60-70%) and undergoes a heavy withering process; it was grown in the county of Hsin Chu in northern Taiwan, it has the qualities of both oolong and black tea. Dong Fang Mei Ren has leaves reminiscent of autumn foliage, with its brown, red and yellow colors. Just the top nibbled leaves of the tea bush are picked, so the tea comprises a beautiful mix of small dark green and golden brown leaves and some pale silvery tips. Once steeped, this tea produces a sweet, smooth taste with high notes of baked ripe-peach, with a sweet citrus aroma.

This is how to do it:
1-1.5 TSP or 1 BAG
8oz / 200ml
195F / 90°C

Not for me. The tea quality itself is nice, with beautiful unbroken tea leaves. But based on the description of honey and peach notes, I was expecting something similar to a typical heavily-oxidized oolong like Brandy Oolong, but the bug-bitten flavor is quite different. It's quite a specific flavor that eludes description, but I'd say it's almost "perfumey". Not like the fresh, juicy stone fruit flavor of an ordinary oxidized oolong or black tea. It's probably an acquired taste for some.

I love this variety of tea and have tried it from many different sources. Others can speak to the flavor profile but its exactly what you expect from a formosa/oriental beauty. I think the quality for the price is excellent for this tea. would definitely recommend.

Wow, what a wonderful tea! I have been drinking tea most of my adult life and this is the best Oolong tea I have ever tasted. I steep the tea 195F for 6 minutes and it is very tasty and no acidity. Highly recommend.

When I got the tea I knew nothing of Taiwanese teas and a few seconds after the hot water opened the teas my entire room became engulfed with a fruity and floral aroma. I couldn’t wait to taste it and even burning my tongue I could taste the sweetness, the peach, the flowers. This is heaven in a cup and I certainly will be buying more.
