Decaf tea FAQ
How is your decaf tea decaffeinated?
Our decaf teas are decaffeinated with carbon dioxide (CO2), a gentle, chemical-free process. The tea leaves are soaked in water and then flushed with CO2, which binds to the caffeine and carries it away while keeping the tea’s flavor and natural antioxidants. Decaf English Breakfast and Decaf Cream Earl Grey use the Canadian CO2 process, developed by Canadian scientists together with tea growers. Decaf Dianhong Black uses a low-temperature supercritical CO2 process that removes over 90% of the caffeine, and Decaf Yunnan Ripe Pu’erh is decaffeinated with a low-temperature physical extraction at about 30–50°C before its final fermentation.
Is decaf tea completely caffeine-free?
No. Decaffeination removes most of the caffeine, but a small amount remains. For zero caffeine, choose herbal teas, rooibos or honeybush.
Does decaf tea taste different?
Decaffeination can soften the flavor slightly, but good decaf teas keep the character of the original tea, especially with milk or in flavored blends.
How do I brew decaf tea?
Brew it like the regular version: about 3 to 5 minutes in boiling water for black tea and 2 to 3 minutes at 175 to 185°F for green tea.
